1982 OPGAL Optronic Industries is founded by RAFAEL. 1986 El-Op acquires 50% ownership of OPGAL 1990 A $6 million contract is awarded to OPGAL for the delivery of thermal imaging systems to the US Army. 1991 - 2001 Multi-phase NTS project for the supply of airborne thermal imagers for the US Marines Corps. 1999 The Enhanced Vision System (EVS) for landing in adverse weather is launched, based on a partnership with Kollsman Inc. and the Bird Foundation. 1999 First batch of microbolometer infrared camera systems is delivered, with OPGAL acting as subcontractor (main contractor is RAFAEL who supplies the systems to a Canadian customer). 2000 Merger of El-Op and the Elbit Group. Management reorganization. 2001 FAA approves the EVS for landing in adverse weather. 2003 OPGAL introduces the FDA uncooled thermal imager for SARS detection and sells over 300 units within a few months. OPGAL introduces the high-end,large format, 640X480 InSb cooled thermal imager. 2004 OPGAL’s EYE-SEC infrared camera has been selected as part of the security system protecting the Olympic games in Athens.
